Dr. Micah Westmoreland and Dr. Kalina Daniels are Epidemiologists. Two years ago, Kalina and Micah was on an assignment in Australia, where they got involved in a no strings tie affair. After hearing part of a conversation between her father General Neil Daniels and Dr. Micah Westmoreland, about keeping her from going to China on a hazardous assignment, Kalina thinks that under her father’s influence Micah only had an affair with her to keep her out of China. When explained, General Daniels lied to her about Micah’s involvement. Although, Kalina knew her father was controlling and wanted to protect her, she believed him over Micah for the simple fact, she knew little about Micah outside of their intimate affair and thinking that Micah’s reason for the affair was not desire, but manipulation, which would explain why Micah requested a no strings attached affair. Hurt turned into anger because she had developed feelings for Micah she had not anticipated.

Two years later, still upset, and angry, Micah and Kalina run into each other at an event. Micah is determined to explain himself and clear his name, but Kalina ain’t having it. Until they are both sent to India to investigate a virus outbreak. Before leaving India, Micah asked Kalina to spend a few weeks at his home, giving her the opportunity of getting to know him and eventually winning her back. Slowly but surely things unfold between them.

One thing I did not like about this book is the fact that Micah made the comment to Kalina, that “I branded you,” he sounds just as controlling as her father was. You brand cows, not people and I found this to be dominating. I think Kalina’s madness was over the top. They were not in a relationship, they were just sleeping together, however, true feelings got in the way of that. I like the story and the characters. I think my reason for ever re-reading/listen to it would be to see if I liked it more or if I missed anything. It was interesting. 3.75 out of 5 rating.
