Review: Rebel

Rebel Rebel by Beverly Jenkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“You will Lose a Love, Reject a Love and Find a Love”

Rebel is part of the Women Who Dare series and the LeVeq series. Valinda Lacy, an educator from New York relocates to New Orleans to follow her dream to work as a schoolteacher. Captain Drake LeVeq, architect, wielder, and carpenter; both dedicated to building and serving the community. After Valinda’s classroom is vandalized and she is attacked, Drake and his sister-in-law Sable show up just in time to save her. The story takes place after the Civil War, so there are many challenges of a vibrant New Orleans but also of troubled times.

My favorite parts of the book were the interactions between Valinda and Drake. They had an enduring romantic chemistry. Although both, Valinda and Drake had entanglements with someone else, that did not stop the attraction they had for each other. Not knowing anything about being in love, Valinda learned all she needed to know from Drake.

I fell in love with this book. Drake was all and everything. The perfect man and the perfect gentleman. I listened to this on audio, and I am glad that I did because I was able to hear the accent that added even more to the story. This is a must-read that I highly recommend. Excellent! I will re-read this book again. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars rating.

My choice of casting:

 Landon Collins as Drake LeVeq
 Mishael Morgan, as Valinda
