Review: The Taming of Jessi Rose

The Taming of Jessi Rose The Taming of Jessi Rose by Beverly Jenkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jessi Rose Clayton, 32 years old, fighting to keep the family ranch from being sold or taken. Jessi is tough and determined to take on Reed Darcy and his mob. Yet, along comes Griffin Blake, 26 years old, the brother of Jackson Black from the book “Always and Forever,” Serving time in the Kansas State Penitentiary for train robberies. Griffin is paid a visit from U.S Deputy Marshal Dixon Wildhorse, due to a letter from Jessi’s nephew Joth Clayton, asking for help in saving their land. Griffin either agrees to help and get out of prison or stay and do his time. In turn for his help, Griff gets out, and is appointed United States Deputy. Calling on his posse for assistance; Preacher Bigelow the bounty hunter and the terrible twins, Two Shafts and Neil July, the fight begins in the small town to save Jessi’s ranch and the residents that’s intimidated by Reed Darcy.

Beside the love match between Jessi and Griffin, this novel had me crying and laughing; the sadness of Jessi losing her parents, her sister, the relationship between her and her father Dexter prior to his death. The funny part were the twins. What I love so much about Jenkins stories is that the characters roll over into other books. Dix Wildhorse made an appearance and Jackson was mentioned. I would recommend this book. The plot and story line were great. I appreciate the strength and determination of Jessi Rose Clayton; take charge and seductive when she wanted to be and the ability to give a mean right hook when needed.

This was a very good book that I have several times.  I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time. What I love about Beverly Jenkins is how she pulls in historical features into a fictional story.  I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars!  Excellent read and one of my favorites.

Idea for cast:

• Jidenna Theodore Mobisson as Griffin Blake
• Taraji P. Henson as Jessi Rose Clayton
