Tempest by Beverly JenkinsMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Tempest is the third book in the Old West Series. Regan the baby sister of Portia Carmichael from book #2 Breathless. Regan is adventurous and not afraid to take a chance. With no one in town that sparked her interest, Regan decided to answer an ad to be a mail order bride. After writing letters back and forth. Regan takes off to Wyoming to meet her soon to be husband Dr. Colton Lee. However, during her travel on the stagecoach, they got approached by some thieves and with Regan expertise in shooting, she laid a couple of them to rest. But when the Doc and Sheriff ran up on the stagecoach, Regan thought some of them were coming back and she aimed and fired, shooting Dr. Lee. The opening of this book had me hollering, it was hysterical, and I knew I was in for a treat. Well, everything went left after shooting Dr. Lee, not only was he mad, but he started to second guess if this was the woman he wants to marry. Regan was not the pre-Madonna he was expecting, compared to his first wife that had passed away. Regan was daring, smart, beautiful, and rugged. Not quite what he was looking for in a wife. On the other hand, Regan was looking for love and romance, something Dr. Lee wasn’t. He just needed a wife to help him raise his child.
There are also some mean-spirit, evil, self-centered, and judgmental characters that seem to make things a bit hard, a sanctimonious community with issues. Thank God for Spring Lee; Dr. Lee’s sister that gave support for both Regan and Colton. I like the mother-daughter relationship that developed between Regan and Anna and although Colton got on my nerves, he finally came around to accepting and loving his new lifestyle with Regan. What I like is the independence and control that Regan held. In those days, the husband controlled the wife’s money, even if it was hers. In this case Regan held all the control which I found refreshing for those times. I love this story, Regan made it through the storm and after all the turmoil, her and Colton finally developed their relationship. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend, it was an excellent read.
My choice for Casting:
- Justine Skye as Regan
- Daniel Royal Georges as Dr. Colton Lee
