Long Shot by Kennedy RyanMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Iris and August, the two meet and they fell for each other
deeply after one meeting. Iris is
attracted to August, but she has a boyfriend, Caleb, which is August NBA rival. She isn’t
ready for what is about to come. Iris has
this dream of having a promising future, but now she is caring Caleb’s baby. Even though she was not ready to have a baby,
but not once did she think of an alternative option. Caleb vowed to take care of her and the baby,
but turns out Caleb is controlling, dictative, abusive, arrogant, and
self-centered. When Caleb finds out that
Iris and August may have an attraction towards each other, he does a dirty play
on the court, causing August serious injury that could cause him his
career.
The problem I have with Iris is that she is indecisive and
naïve. She gives Caleb more chances than
she should. Caleb is like a leech
draining and controlling Iris every emotional being. Although, Iris did not want to be like her
mother, depending on a man, but because of her complicated situation, she
becomes trapped under Caleb dictatorship.
The love between August and Iris was powerful and alluring. They had the perfect connection from the
beginning. Every moment apart, there
thoughts longed for each other. When
together their interaction was sincere.
The writing is very detailed, poetic and well written. However, this story was hard to read, due to
the nature of events. This book is
filled with abuse, rape, and cruelty. I would not consider this a romance
novel, but there was a love story between two people. Yet, there was so much going on between Iris
and Caleb, the love story between Iris and August got lost. The narrators: Sean Crisden was excellent; Jo Raylan sound
like she was mumbling through most parts of the audio. I give
this book a 3 out of 5 stars.
My choice of casting:
- · Denise Vasi As Iris
- · Deron Williams As August
