Riding The Storm by Brenda JacksonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is #5 of the Westmoreland series.
Jayla Cole the daughter and only child of Adam Cole is now alone. Jayla’s mother died when she was 10 years old and now her father is dead. Years ago, when Jayla was young, Storm Westmoreland worked for her father Adam and Jayla had this huge crush, but being six years apart, Jayla was too young for Storm and working for Adam meant off-limits to his daughter. However, Storm promised Adam that he would always look out for Jayla, even though he had not done a really good job of it.
Adam Cole was so strict when it came down to Jayla, it was almost controlling. Yet, it was a father’s love with no harm intended. Storm was like the son that Adam never had, but regardless Storm worked for Adam and Jayla was off limits so his change of pursuing her was out of the question. Adam was now dead, so he was no longer a buffer, but still Storm was hesitating. Because Jayla was so sheltered by her father, she had no intentions of developing a relationship with any man, she refused to let a man dictate her life. Now alone with no family, Jayla decides to reach out to a fertility clinic, because she wants a baby and that is all she wants.
Jayla and Storm runs into each other in New Orleans while attending a convention and they develop a pretty good relationship, considering it took them awhile. Although, she has feeling for Storm, but she refuses to let that get in the way of her having a baby. Jayla felt the relationship between them was just temporary and was not a concern. On the other hand, Storm was fighting his own feelings, he could handle physical passion, but not emotions. After Storm had finally admitted and accepted that he was in love with Jayla and once he found out about the fertility clinic, there was no way he was going to allow Jayla to have a baby by a man she did not know. He would marry her and give her that baby she wants, but Jayla never found or thought Mr. Right existed. Stone let’s her know he is Mr. Right.
I enjoyed the story. It was real and understandable. It shows how not thinking rationally can cause you to make hasty discussions; we can learn from our past, but not live by it and how stubbornness can make you blind. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I probably won’t re-read, but I do recommend this book.
