Before the Dawn by Beverly JenkinsMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Louis Montague was like a father to Leah and he truly loved her, and she loved him. Considering she never knew her real father, Louis was the only man in her life that she would consider a father. After her mother’s death and Louis became terminally ill, the only way he could make sure Leah was taken care of financially after his death was to marry her on his death bed. Because he had never married Leah’s mother or adopted Leah, at this time it was too late for either. Louis died the same night they got married. Leah had no clue what was in store for her, when she traveled to Colorado to get her inheritance, but also to locate Louis two sons to apologize on Louis behalf for not being there for them when they were children.
This book has a lot of adventure and mystery. Leah’s hero, Ryder Damien, the son of Louis Montague and her newly stepson falls in love, after dealing with his anger and bitterness of his father and the death of his mother, in which he always blamed Louis. However, he must save Leah from prison time because of the debt Louis Montague owes and being Louis wife, she is obligated to pay off his debt in court. Ryder is attracted to Leah, but he doesn’t know the real story behind her marrying his father and she refuse to tell him.
This story holds a lot of secrets, lies, hate, judgement and frustration. Yet, there is dedication, love and attachment. The villain in the book was no surprise to me, I kind of figured, but wasn’t quite sure. I will just say, you cannot tell a book by its cover; literally.
I loved this story; it was exciting and filled with adventure. This story held my attention, and I was eager to read more and more. I give this book 5 out of 5 ★★★★★ stars. When I am ready for a good story, I will definitely re-read. I highly recommend for everyone to read this book, it is well-developed, intriguing and exceptionally written. Perfect!
My choice of cast:
• Rissi Palmer as Leah Barnett
• Tanji Liam as Ryder Damien
